Job summary
This is a 10 PA post for a locum consultantnephrologist. The post will supportthe existing innovative clinical and academic programme in chronic kidney disease, community-based kidney care, renal transplantation, and dialysis across the North Central London sector.
The postholder will provide a 1:9 nephrology on-call commitment, specialist clinic at Hampstead site, and general nephrology clinic and inpatient reviews at Barnet hospital. In addition, the post includes virtual CKD triage, teaching and educational supervision and full participation in the educational and CPD activities of the department.
The Royal Free is an established centre of excellence for nephrology and transplantation services and the development of these specialties is consistent with the strategic plans of both the Trust and the UCL Medical School. An expansion in the kidney care programme features as an important element in the Royal Free's integrated business plan and long-term financial model and in its development as one of the leading national transplant sites.
Main duties of the job
- weekly specialist clinic with a template of 2 new and 10 f/up patients for a 4 hrs clinic with an additional 1 hr admin time.
- Care for a dialysis patients inc. weekly dialysis clinic, monthly MDT and ward round
- Care for transplant patients
- weekly gen. nephrology clinic at Barnet hospital with template of 4 hrs for 2 new and 10 f/up patients and 1 hr admin time
- renal Inpatient review at Barnet hospital once a week
- Provision of virtual kidney care consultations via an online advice and guidance portal
- A commitment to the 1:9 COW nephrology and renal transplant on call rota at the RFH. This includes AM handover, daily ward round of around 30 renal inpatients, discharge planning and review of all new admissions under nephrology. The includes weekend working and out of hours advice during the week on call. All routine clinic activity is cancelled during on-call duties.
- Attendance at weekly X-ray and renal pathology meeting, and academic afternoon at RFH
- Support of infection prevention & control and antimicrobial stewardship activities.
- Participation in the supervision and training of specialty trainees and clinical scientists, teaching of other jr trainees, medical students and hospital staff as appropriate
- Participation in the undergraduate teaching programme.
- Participation in clinical audit and quality improvement.
- Participation in service development and policy review.
- Participation in CPD and quality assurance activity including annual appraisal and revalidation.
