Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and flexible Speech and Language Therapist to gain experience with adults in an acute setting. You will be joining an established and well supported Speech and Language Therapy team, and will have an opportunity to develop specialist dysphagia and communication skills supported by a highly skilled senior therapy team.

The post holder will join the band 5 rotational Speech and Language Therapy programme, which will include rotations within the health services for the elderly (HSEP), general medical teams and the Acute Stroke Unit at Barnet Hospital

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of adult inpatients. Main duties of the post holder are:

  • To assess and treat own caseload of patients / clients, who may have complex and /or chronic presentations, as an autonomous practitioner, and maintain associated records
  • To provide a high standard of speech and language therapy assessment, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic inpatients, and associatedoutpatient activity.
  • To develop effective treatment plans based on evidence-based researchseeking guidance from senior speech and language therapist when necessary
  • To participate in CPD using evidence-based practice, audits and publishedresearch to inform own practice and take an active role in own professionaldevelopment
  • To prioritise own workload and delegate to Support Workers when appropriate
  • To participate in the bank holiday rota
