Job summary
We are looking for a dynamic, autonomous practitioner with a passion for Central Venous Access Devices (CVADs) and Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) to join our team. Proficiency in the use of ultrasound scan guidance in the insertion of Vascular access Devices (VADs) is essential, including experience as a Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) & Midline placer.
The Nurse Led Vascular Access Service (NLVAS) & Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) service provides a comprehensive elective service to adult in-patients and outpatients at The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. Oversees the governance and practice associated with OPAT and NLVAS insertion, care, and maintenance across sites. The hub for the service is based at the Royal Free Site and the post holder is expected to provide a NLVAS service for two days per week at the Chase Farm site.
The OPAT service comprises of a multi-disciplinary team that facilitates the OPAT pathways for patients requiring mid-long-term IV antibiotics in community settings.Proficiency in OPAT modalities and processes is essential, and the post holder must have experience of working in OPAT. The post holder will have responsibility for complication management and ensuring best practice is adhered to throughout the organisation.
Main duties of the job
This is a two-part role comprising of both Vascular Access (VA) and Outpatients Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT). The role sits in the Nurse-led Vascular Access (NLVAS) & OPAT service.
The main purpose of this role is:
- Providing a reactive and comprehensive patient centred VA insertion service.
- Providing a responsive and comprehensive OPAT service facilitating safe discharges into the community and maintaining Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) in the Organisation.
