Job summary

Your role will be to carry out a wide range of cardiac diagnostic procedures whilst ensuring accurate outcomes and reports are produced to a high standard. The post holder will work effectively within a wide multidisciplinary team whilst upholding Trust values and assist in the training of the Apprentice Physiologists and Student Physiologists within the department.

You will undertake work in a timely and efficient way, meeting deadlines and keeping senior colleagues informed of changes in own technical workload and maintain clinical documentation and databases as directed, to participate in the provision of data for statistical analysis and to adhere to departmental standards of record keeping with respect to accuracy, timeliness of completion and confidentiality.

You will be expected to exercise initiative and judgement in solving problems related to own technical workload, whilst keeping others informed and recognising when there is a need to refer problems to senior colleagues and being responsive to advice given.

Your role will involve dealing with telephone queries from patients, relatives, general practitioners etc in a calm and professional manner, and any other duties as requested by department leads.

Main duties of the job

  • To perform 12 lead ECG
  • Prepare and fit ambulatory ECG monitors
  • Prepare and fit ambulatory BP monitors
  • To provide factual reports of the above
  • Ensure results are uploaded on clinical systems
  • Ensure flagging of abnormal results
  • Assist with ETT and DSE
  • Departmental housekeeping

Ensure equipment is in working order and report any issues

About us

The Royal Free is a successful Foundation Trust and a major teaching hospital campus within UCL. The cardiology department has expanded greatly in recent years and offers a full range of services. We are the leading European centre for carcinoid heart disease, one of the few UK referral centres for Pulmonary Hypertension and we have close collaboration with the National Amyloid Centre sited at the University site at the RFH.The echocardiography department provides a routine TTE outpatient and inpatient service. More specialised services include 3D, Dobutamine Stress Echo, Exercise Echo, Contrast, Bubble, and TOE.We have weekly review and teaching meetings attended by one or more consultants, registrars, cardiac physiologists and junior staff.All physiologists are encouraged to attend relevant course/meetings as continued professional development is important to our team and post-graduate exams are actively encouraged.Our department has a strong emphasis on teaching/training of physiologists, specialist registrars, MSc students, and newly qualified junior members of staff. We support the PTP and STP training programs and the successful candidate would show an ongoing commitment to training in the department.
