Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and self-motivated pharmacy technician to join the Pharmacy Clinical Trials team as a Band 5 Senior Pharmacy Technician - Clinical Trials.
The post holder will work closely with the pharmacy clinical trials team to support the delivery of a high-quality clinical trial service to non-commercial and commercial sponsors, contract research organisations (CROs), staff an patients in accordance with current UK Clinical Trials Regulations and all amendments, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Good Distribution Practice (GDP) guidelines and department procedures.
The postholder will support the pharmacy set-up, maintenance, delivery (including dispensing) close-down, archiving and invoicing of clinical trials.
Potential candidates will be qualified pharmacy technicians with demonstrable post-qualification hospital pharmacy experience including dispensary services and aseptic manufacture. Clinical trials experience is desirable but not required and training will be provided.
Main duties of the job
Key responsibilities include the following:
- To maintain and support the Pharmacy Clinical Trials service in accordance with current UK Clinical Trials Regulations and all updates, GCP, GMP, GDP guidelines and departmental procedures
- Performing the operational set-up of all new clinical trials.
- Day-to-day IMP management activities including shipment receipt, accountability, quarantining of stock, temperature monitoring and excursion management, destruction, and pharmacy site file maintenance.
- Processing specific amendments to clinical trials
- Close-down and archiving activities
- Serving as the primary point of contact for sponsors, CROs and research delivery teams
- Dispensing clinical trial medication
- Supporting in the preparation for internal and external audit and regulatory inspection.
- To ensure accurate and timely charging of sponsors for pharmacy involvement in clinical trials
- To support Senior Clinical Trials Pharmacy Managers in the implementation of Trust clinical trials pharmacy strategy
