Job summary

Would you like to work with new mothers and babies, supporting them, while supporting the maternity team at the Royal free London, to provide World Class Maternity care. on the Barnet site.

We are looking for Maternity Healthcare Assistants who have reached a good standard of education which include GCSE Maths and English [or equivalent) You will have excellent communication skills, be sensitive to the needs of women going through pregnancy and childbirth and have the ability to work as part of our dynamic team.

In return we provide a range of in-service training in order to develop your skills within the role.

Main duties of the job

  • Maintain a professional behaviour at all times and promote a positive image of Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust at all times, in line with World Class Care values.
  • Perform the clinical duties informing the midwife of the results and recording these appropriately on the electronic records system ( Full training will be given on the trust systems )
  • Assist in orientating patients and visitors to the ward environment.
  • Support and assist women with the initiation and maintenance of breast feeding following appropriate training.
  • Escorting women and their babies to ward areas and other departments as agreed/requested by the midwife. This may involve the use of wheelchairs or beds and trolleys.
  • Giving information to women and their families regarding their care, directing queries to professional staff as appropriate in a sensitive manner.
  • Acting as a chaperone to the midwives/doctors as requested.
  • Additional clinical duties may be delegated to the Maternity Assistant as appropriate, following discussion and in-service training.
  • Act in accordance with the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in England.
  • Supporting the theatre staff
