The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust are recruiting a Waste & Sustainability Manager to assist in managing waste and sustainability under the scope of the Royal Free London Group (RFL) and Royal Free London Property Services Ltd (RFLPSL).
This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of the NHS mission to make the UK healthcare system 'net zero', and more environmentally and socially responsible. You will contribute to and play a leading role in the trust's overall green plan delivery in respect of both carbon reduction and linked projects relating to other sustainability goals.
The postholder will work collaboratively across and alongside multiple services to achieve shared outcomes in respect of both sustainability initiatives and broader trust objectives. You will be based at our White Lion Street office with regular travel to our main hospitals and satellite sites.
The duties involved are wide-ranging and diverse, with the main areas of focus including waste, transport, buildings, energy, behaviour change, climate resilience, and biodiversity. The postholder will help to chair and coordinate the Estates & Facilities sustainability working groups.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will manage the waste contract and be the key point of contact for all site related queries and issues, being accessible to service users and waste providers across several sites, and responsible for resolving any issues to ensure service delivery. They will work with the sites to maintain compliance and carry out monitoring visits on both RFL and contractor sites.
The postholder will need to be customer service focussed, communicating in a polite and friendly manner, and demonstrating tact and diplomacy when discussing the needs of the service.
The postholder is expected to be adept at managing projects and delivering initiatives within large organisations and will take a lead role in programme delivery for sustainability-linked transformation work at the trust, with a focus on driving forwards projects that support the delivery of the organisational 'green plan'. They will use sound project management principles to deliver discrete projects, and good general organisational techniques to manage business-as-usual workload priorities.
The postholder will conduct sustainability assessments to identify areas where the organisation can reduce its carbon footprint, increase energy efficiency, and minimise waste. They will ensure compliance all relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, technical guidance, and organisational policies specific to waste, sustainability, and wider environmental issues.
