Main duties of the job
To provide an autonomous stoma care service using advanced clinical judgement and knowledge of the speciality.
To take responsibility for own evidence based practice and implement and add to the body of knowledge that supports nursing practice within stoma care.
To develop stoma care guidelines, protocols and policies for the trust.
To develop all staff within the multidisciplinary team, providing support, advice, formal and informal education.
Participate in departmental audit (local and national) and implementation and evaluation of audit outcomes/national standards.
To lead and innovate nursing practice within stoma care both within the trust and through local networks including evaluation of new products.
About us
The Royal Free Hospital has a dynamic stoma care nursing service that provides advanced clinical care, support and advice to both inpatients and Camden community via our outpatient department.
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated nurse to join an established stoma team. Working closely with other members of the specialist multidisciplinary team, you will be expected to promote a high quality service that provides specialist care to patients with stomas, including paediatrics, advice on fistula management and supporting individuals, their families and carers through all stages of the stoma pathway. The nursing service includes post-operative stoma education, staff education, nurse led outpatient clinics, telephone clinics, an email / phone advice line and carrying regular research and audit to improve our service.
The successful candidate will be a First Level Registered Nurse with a First Degree level qualification in a health related subject or working towards. You will be required to demonstrate excellent communication, presentation and teaching skills, combined with confidence, enthusiasm and self motivation. You will need experience of working at Band 6 or above in acute colorectal surgery.
