Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our management team at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust (RFL). We are looking for a Service Manager to support our Gastroenterology service at Barnet; this is an interesting role which offers a broad range of experience to help support your career development.

You will work with consultants and colleagues to manage the delivery of a high quality service and lead an administrative team to ensure the best possible patient experience.

This role will be based at Barnet Hospital with some infrequent travel required to Chase Farm Hospital and other Trust sites. Our Gastroenterology service provides care for patients at Barnet Hospital and Chase Farm Hospital.

The successful candidate is required to be able demonstrate the Trust values, the responsibilities of the job description and person specification. In particular you should have proven managerial experience, experience of managing staff and knowledge and awareness of operational targets within the NHS. You will have excellent communication skills be able to demonstrate strong leadership and management skills. You should have a flexible approach to work, be able to manage workload and work as part of a team to tight deadlines without supervision.

Main duties of the job

Your role will be to provide operational management support, working closely with clinicians, managers and staff to ensure that services are responsive to patients and provided to the highest possible standard.

The successful candidate will have proven management experience within an acute hospital setting in an operational role, including experience in staff management and delivering services. Knowledge and experience of how to maximise compliance to referral to treatment targets, including waiting list management and management of outpatient clinics, would be highly desirable.

In order to meet this challenge, you will be a team player with excellent communication skills and a drive to improve patient experience. A flexible and proactive approach is essential, and you will need to have the skills to prioritise and plan your workload in a busy environment.

Support the infrastructure which measures performance within the directorate (including RTT reports, waiting lists, outpatient new to follow up ratios, diagnostic treatment status, length of stay).

Ensure data validation is completed to achieve required national and local RTT targets and milestones.
