Job summary

This post is a full-time equivalent position within the Neuroendocrine Tumour Unit. The NET unit at the Royal Free is a large ENETS Centre of Excellence. We are looking for an enthusiastic team player to join our busy team. An interest in advanced nursing practice is welcomed and an enthusiasm for Neuroendocrine Tumours is essential.

As the largest NET centre in the UK, we are a vibrant unit. The Net nursing team are a vital part of this multidisciplinary team and play a key roll in the care of patients living with Neuroendocrine neoplasms. This interesting specialty gives opportunities for development and we support professional development.

The Cancer CNS is a key worker role. The CNS addresses patients' health concerns and works to promote their health and wellbeing. Using their skills and expertise in cancer care, the CNS provides physical and emotional support to their patients, coordinates their care services, and informs and advises them on clinical and practical issues associated with their illness. This leads to a more positive outcome for patients.

The post will incorporate the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) role dimensions of expert clinical practice, education, leadership, management and research.

Main duties of the job

The Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist will be required:

o To assist in the provision of professional and clinical leadership and expertise in the care of the patient with cancer, acting as a resource to provide information and support to patients, carers and staff.o To liaise effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team to achieve a seamless specialist service.o To ensure that every patient has a plan of care and liaise with other teams to ensure that this is not compromisedo To lead and contribute to the creation of patient informationo To provide formal and informal training and education within specialist areao To lead and contribute to the development of clinical guidelines and policies both internally and externally.o To attend the Cancer CNS Community of Practiceo Support health and wellbeing events and initiatives to support patients to live with their diseaseo To act as a core member of the multidisciplinary meetings, contributing to discussion and acting as a patient advocate

We are looking for an enthusiastic clinical nurse specialist to join our dynamic Neuroendocrine Cancer Specialist Nursing Team. The position is a band 7, full time, permanent post.

The neuroendocrine tumour unit at the Royal Free Hospital has an international reputation for the management of neuroendocrine tumour patients. In 2010 it was the first UK centre to be awarded European Centre of Excellence. It currently receives 30-35 new referrals per month (360 - 420 per year) and has an active patient cohort of over 2000 patients. We receive referrals from across the UK as well as from abroad, and we are the designated centre for NETs within the North London Cancer Alliance. The unit is at the forefront of research and clinical care for patients with Neuroendocrine Tumours. The multiple NET diagnoses provide opportunity for development and ensure a varied, interesting career opportunity.
