Job summary
The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is one of London's busiest teaching hospitals situated near the edge of Hampstead Heath. The Nuclear Medicine Department offers a dynamic hybrid imaging service, currently running a single PET scanner service scanning more than 5500 patients per year. Substantial investment has been made in the service to accommodate the UK's first long axial field of view scanner; Siemens Vision QUADRA, later this year, and in addition to this, a second scanner; Siemens Vision 600, will also be installed in the new year. The service as we know it will undergo multi-factor improvements, not only with vastly reduced turn around times, improved patient and staff experience, but also the opportunity for research and investment in dedicated roles within the doctors', physicists' and the technologists' teams to drive this.
This position will have a dedicated research element of 20% and we are looking for a professional, highly skilled, motivated team leader with patient care, staff well-being and problem solving, as well as research, high on their list of priorities.
Main duties of the job
The primary role of this post, with the support of the chief technologist, is to take a lead responsibility for the PET/CT imaging service. This includes developing and maintaining an efficient service with regards to carrying out PET/CT studies on the most state of the art equipment in the country. Being the first centre to utilise such technology comes with challenges and being able to think laterally and embrace change will be key to success in this role. The PET/CT service will be working with various partners inside and outside of the Royal Free London trust including our NHSE PET/CT consortium partners; UCLH and Barts Health.
Secondary roles of this post will be to cover a range of other senior technologist duties such as - see full JD
About us
Nuclear Medicine is a cross-site unit including both the Hampstead and Barnet hospital sites. Royal Free London covers multiple sites and our referral base reflects this. The technologist team is 25+ strong and we work with our doctors, physicists, admin team and radiopharmacy colleagues to delivery the highest level of service achievable. Everyone has a voice in Nuclear Medicine and everyone's view matters. We have regular group meetings as well as monthly departmental meetings and heads of section meetings to ensure we drive the department's progress. Visiting staff have commented on our team dynamic and we are proud of the way we care for each other and most importantly how we care for our patients and their families. There is a high level willingness to support the departmental goals and the department aims to support our colleagues in this.
