Job summary

We are looking to recruit a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to become part of our integrated Medical HSEP (Health Services for Elderly People) Therapy team.

As a team of therapy support workers, occupational therapists, dietitians, speech and language therapists and physiotherapists, we are dedicated to providing and improving our excellent quality of care for older patients and those living with frailty and dementia.

The successful candidate should be an enthusiastic and passionate therapist, who is keen to develop their specialist clinical knowledge and management skills. They should be forward thinking and able to demonstrate excellent organisational and clinical skills within the fast-paced in-patient setting, to facilitate safe discharges and provide excellent quality of care.

There are many opportunities to lead on and participate in Quality Improvement Projects and assist in setting new directions for our service. Good communication skills and the motivation to encourage and facilitate best practice is required. You will be joining a well-established and supportive integrated Therapy team and work closely with, and be supported by the Clinical Lead and an Advanced Frailty Practitioner.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an excellent communicator with clinical expertise in frailty and dementia services, and a flexible, problem solving approach to their work. The ability to work well with all members of the multi-disciplinary team is essential, as is the ability to promote the role of physiotherapy and the implementation of evidence-based practice.

The post holder will provide leadership, supervision, teaching and support to more junior members of the team and will liaise closely with the other specialist teams within the therapy service. They will provide day to day operational management for the team alongside the other team leads, and will have excellent prioritisation and organisational skills.

It is a requirement for this post-holder to participate in the 7-day working roster and bank holiday cover.

Specialist support and supervision will be provided to increase your skills in managing patients living with frailty for example, advanced communication skills including 'What Matters to You' and Advanced Care Planning, Delirium recognition, management and nutrition.
