Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our expanding Clinical Endoscopist team within Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trusts on a permanent basis.
We are looking to recruit a BCSP Accredited Clinical Endoscopist to join the Mid and South Essex NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. Our endoscopy units are based at Basildon, Broomfield, and Southend Hospitals, with further expansion into the community setting within the next 3 years.
You will be based at Basildon Hospital within the screening hub but will be expected to undertake Bowel Cancer Screening endoscopy lists at all BCSP endoscopy sites.
The Clinical Endoscopist will be BCSP Accredited and use advanced level practice to encompass aspects of education, research and management but is firmly grounded in direct care provision or clinical work with patients, families, and populations.
The Clinical Endoscopist will use their expertise, experience, professional and clinical judgement and demonstrate the expert nature of their practice and the depth of their knowledge daily in all aspects of their role. As an expert practitioner will also lead / actively engage in clinical audit +/or research related to the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening programme
In addition, you will participate in the Trust's endoscopist training programme which is supported by the East of England Endoscopy Academy as well as undertake symptomatic lists where BCSP Endoscopy lists are not available.
Main duties of the job
Demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.
Demonstrating in-depth knowledge, understanding and experience of patients with lower gastrointestinal diseases and disorders and is able to interpret endoscopic findings, distinguishing benign disease from potential /actual malignant disease and instigate appropriate actions and management for timely further investigation and / or Specialist Consultant referral.
You must have BCSP Accreditation to performing screening derived colonoscopy.In addition must have be a JAG Accredited Train the Colonoscopy/OGD Trainer.
You will work autonomously in performing highly skilled in both upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopic diagnostic and therapeutic screening procedures upon participants requiring sedation/non-sedation.
Meet performance and quality KPIs determined by the clinical accreditation and standards committees of National Cancer Screening Programmes and prospectively submits such data openly and transparently for scrutiny in maintaining continued professional validation and screening accreditation
Be experienced in the recognition, management and treatment of lesions within the colon and rectum, using high-definition scopes and narrow band imaging.
Must possess the skills to at least deal with level 3 polyps, must have the knowledge and experience to deal with post polypectomy complications.
