The Emergency Department atBroomfield Hospitalcurrently has 17consultantpostsand this advertisement and recruitment is to expand to 18posts.
Thedepartment seesover140000patientseachyear,ofwhich25% arechildrenand young people.
The individual should be committed to providing excellent shop floor coverage to enhance patient careand support the more junior staff. We area friendly department with a stableworkforce,many of whom haveremainedin the department for years.
We are committed to fully treating the patient prior to specialtyreferraland have policies such as adult andpaediatricsedation in place to do so. We have our own departmentalUltrasoundmachineswithmany ofourdoctors trainedandexperienced initsuse. The CT scanner isadjacent tothedepartmentand the Emergency Team are fully involved with stroke patients undergoing thrombolysis 24/7.
We have regular consultant meetings as well as teaching and audit meetings which involveall ofthe staff in the ED to share information and gather feedback and ideas.

Main duties of the job
As a Consultant Emergency Physician, you will be expected to work with other members of the Emergency Medicine Team to providefirst classclinical care in Adult andPaediatricEmergency Medicine.
You will provide clinical leadership, including running and delivering RAT (Rapid AssessmentandTreatment)andsupervision/teachingofjuniormedicalstaff.RAThas been implemented as part of a new model for delivering emergency care at the Trust that takes ona whole systemapproach.
CurrentlyEmergencyMedicineconsultantsprovideshopfloorcover18hoursaday,inclusiveof weekends and Bank holidays.However,due to changes inindividualjob plans and less than full time workingthere are unfilled shifts in therota.The aim is to ensuremoreconsistent cover of the Ambulatory/RAT shifts which are 0900-1700 and 1700-2300 and ensure thedayEPIC shifts and on call cover ismaintainedat 1 in 16.
Thepost-holderwillbeexpected totakeanappropriate shareinthemanagementand administrative workload of the Department. Consultant engagement in planning and developing the service is valued.
