The closing date is 12 March 2026
Job summary
You will be an expert practitioner, with responsibility for providing autonomous reports on plain film radiographic examinations, including Accident & Emergency, Outpatient and GP-referred patients.
Your working time will be spent undertaking clinical and reporting duties.
You will provide expert advice and support to senior and junior radiographers, assistant practitioners and student radiographers.
You will promote continuous professional development within the department by providing teaching sessions and communicating effectively any technical issues needing improvement.
You will also provide expert advice to hospital doctors and non-medical referrers within your field of expertise to facilitate highest standards of patient care.
You will continuously audit your own reporting standards.
Main duties of the job
The role involves interpreting plain film radiographs and producing clear, accurate written reports for General Practitioners, hospital clinicians and other healthcare professionals. You will ensure all reports are communicated promptly and take responsibility for authorising them in your own name, remaining fully accountable for their content. Any imaging that shows significant or urgent pathology must be acted upon immediately, with timely escalation to the referring clinician.
The post requires working strictly within your own level of competency and referring cases beyond this scope to a Reporting Radiographer colleague, Consultant Radiologist or Radiology Registrar. You will contribute to maintaining high image quality across the department and support ongoing quality assurance.
Continuous auditing of personal reporting standards is essential, including participation in quarterly peer review within the reporting radiographer team. The role also includes providing expert advice and support to clinicians, radiographers, student radiographers, GPs and other healthcare professionals.
