Healthcare Assistant - Stock Ward

The closing date is 18 January 2026

Job summary

Join Our Friendly Team as a Health Care Assistant!

Are you passionate about patient care and eager to learn new skills? We're looking for a full-time, permanent Health Care Assistant to join our welcoming team on Stock Ward, a busy Plastic Surgery ward at the world-renowned St Andrews Centre.

This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with plastic surgery patients and gain hands-on experience in wound and post-operative care for a wide range of complex procedures. Our ward has 24 inpatient beds and provides care for patients with diverse and challenging plastic surgery needs.

You'll be part of a supportive, friendly team that values learning and development. We offer plenty of opportunities to expand your knowledge and grow your career in a dynamic environment. Stock Ward also plays a key role in trauma care, working closely with the regional Trauma Unit to deliver a 24-hour service.

If you're compassionate, motivated, and ready to make a difference, we'd love to hear from you!

Main duties of the job

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with daily living activities such as eating, showering and using the toilet
  • Utilising equipment to move patients when necessary
  • Taking the patient's vital signs such as blood pressure and temperature both pre and post operatively
  • Talking to patients and reassuring them
  • Assisting nurses and other staff when needed
  • Adhering to professional standards

About us

The Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS) brings together key health, care, community, and voluntary sector organisations from across our area. Our aim is to work together in partnership to join up health and care services, improving our populations health and wellbeing and reducing health inequalities. One such example of this collaborative work is the launch of our HCA Academy, an ICS initiative between Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT) and Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust (MSEFT) to support the incoming Health Care assistant (HCA) workforce. The academy models a 'one workforce' cross system approach to the onboarding, induction, education, and experience of Healthcare Assistants.

Successful candidates to this role will be able to access the additional support provided by the HCA Academy following their induction with MSEFT. This includes development opportunities, pastoral support, staff rewards and access to HCA exclusive resources such as HCA App.
