Join us at a pivotal time for acute services across Mid and South Essex as we seek an experienced and motivated Assistant Clinical Lead in Vascular Scrub.
Our Main and Hybrid Theatres deliver a wide range of vascular procedures, including EVAR/TEVAR and renal access, with the Hybrid Theatre located in the Regional Cardiothoracic Centre at Basildon. BTUH is a key part of the South Essex Emergency Vascular Network, operating under a hub-and-spoke model. Current service developments include:
Phase 1: Centralisation of aortic vascular emergencies to BTUHPhase 2: Elective aortic servicesPhase 3: Full compliance with national vascular service recommendations

Main duties of the job
- Support clinical leadership and develop mechanisms for sharing best practice within the department and across the Trust.
- Maintain and promote effective communication with the unit team, multidisciplinary colleagues, and other departments, including delivering formal presentations on departmental matters.
- Ensure systems are in place within your area to support the development of Band 5 roles in line with service needs.
- Collate and analyse specialist information under the supervision of the Clinical Lead, as requested by the Theatre Manager, and present findings at working groups or professional advisory committees when required.
- Deputise for the Clinical Lead for Vascular Surgery during their absence and attend relevant meetings.
- Advise senior leadership (Clinical Lead, Theatre Manager, and Matron) on changes in practice that may impact service delivery or resource optimisation.
- Participate in direct patient care for a minimum of 80% of contracted hours.
- Provide clinical advice and guidance to junior staff and specialist knowledge to senior staff, with a focus on vascular surgery.
- Lead on defining, implementing, and evaluating care standards within the vascular surgery specialty under the supervision of the Clinical Lead.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders (Clinical Leads, Assistant Clinical Leads, Education and Practice Facilitator, Matron, Theatre Manager, and Compliance Facilitator) to enhance service effectiveness and efficiency in line with Trust policies.
