Job summary

Complex Care Maternity Support Worker - Community Midwifery

We have an exciting opportunity for a Complex Care Maternity Support Worker (MSW) to join our dedicated Community Midwifery Team, providing compassionate, high-quality care to women and families in the Thurrock area.

As an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team, you will contribute to delivering a seamless, patient-focused service that supports women throughout their maternity journey. Working within the Trust's policies, procedures, and philosophy of care, you will help ensure that all women receive equitable access to maternity services and information.

This role has been developed in response to the changing needs of our local population, with a particular focus on supporting vulnerable women and families, including those who may face language or cultural barriers when accessing maternity care.

The MBRRACE-UK report: "Saving Lives, Improving Mothers' Care 2024" highlighted that language barriers can significantly affect access to care and maternal outcomes. Within Thurrock, we have identified a growing number of women who may not have English as a first language or require additional support to understand and engage with maternity services.

This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference to women and families in our community, ensuring they receive the care, understanding, and support they need throughout their maternity experience.

Main duties of the job

As a Complex Care Maternity Support Worker, you will support midwives in the delivery of integrated maternity services to women and their families during pregnancy and the postnatal period. In this role, you will liaise with a range of community and hospital-based services to enhance the care offered to women and their families through the direct delivery of support and by acting as a key point of contact for advice and signposting.

Your role will help increase support for these patients by providing information and education on infant feeding, antenatal and postnatal care, maternal health during pregnancy, expectations of maternity services, and access to hospital-based maternity care.

As a Complex Care Maternity Support Worker, you will play a key role in bridging this gap by offering targeted support, information, and education around:

  • Infant feeding and newborn care
  • Antenatal and postnatal care
  • Maternal health and wellbeing during pregnancy
  • Accessing and navigating maternity hospital services

About us

We aim to make the most of our skills and experiences so we can become the best we can be. As one organisation we will recruit the finest and retain more specialist staff due to more employment opportunities across our Trust.
