Job summary

We are seeking a motivated and caring band 4 Renographer to join our Renal Haemodialysis Unit. The post holder will work as a integral member of the multidisciplinary renal team, supporting the delivery of safe , effective and person- centered haemodialysis treatment for patients with Chronic Kidney disease.

To assist in the development of the Heamodialysis services by supporting all members of the team in the assessment and treatment of the patients and the day to day running of the haemodialysis environment.

The postholder will facilitate the haemodialysis procedure according to the hospital policies and procedures, and will understand, respond immediately to deviations from the expected normal to ensure safe care provision.

Work both on the main unit and Blenheim Ward Dialysis unit when required.

To train, supervise renal staff and contribute to the development of new staff to the Renal Unit by teaching and assisting them in day-to-day duties until the new are seen to be competent in dialysis practice and can work unsupervised.

Main duties of the job

Assessment of Arterio/venous access prior to commencement of haemodialysis therapy, informing the person in charge of any concerns.

Cannulation of Arterio/Venous access, in accordance with unit policies and procedures.

Give advice on the care of Arterio/venous access to both patients and carers

Ensure Arterio/Venous access is assessed after completion of dialysis treatment.

Work within department protocols to ensure all duties are completed efficiently, effectively and to a high standard of care.

Commencement and termination of a patient treatment with an haemodialysis catheter as access.

Observation of catheter exit site dressing, redressing as required using Aseptic technique.

Give advice on the care of the Haemodialysis catheter and exit site to patient and carers.

Perform ECG recordings following training guidelines when required

Participate in training and support of staff and new members to the renal team.

Work as part of the acute dialysis team on the Renal Ward Blenheim.

To be part of the on-call team for out of hours dialysis team

To be able to work on both the main dialysis unit and the Blenheim Acute Dialysis unit, when required.

Essential

  • Educated to A-level, or equivalent experience in healthcare role
  • Accredited training related to renal care or dialysis (cannulation/venepuncture)care certificate completed

Desirable

  • NVQ level 3 training or Equivalent healthcare qualification
  • Relevant haemodialysis related training

Knoweldge and Skills

Essential

  • Previous experience in a health care setting within renal dialysis for minimum of 2 years as band 3 HCA
  • Experience in maintaining accurate patient records
  • Experience in providing direct patient care, including monitoring and recording observations

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Vascular access Care and complications associated
  • Experience in using renal dialysis systems such as renalware
  • nvolvement in audits or service improvement activities

Communication

Essential

  • Good communication (verbal & non-verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Experience of service user engagement

Desirable

  • Ability to recognize and respond to changes in patient condition
  • Experience in patient education or coaching patients through procedures
