Job summary
To provide specialist breast nursing expertise and support, clinical assessment and education to patients carers and work as part of the multidisciplinary team.
To assess, treat and manage a caseload of patients with breast cancer.
Ensure there is continuity in the care for patients throughout the cancer pathway
To act as an expert resource within the Breast Unit and throughout the patient journey.
To assist with service developments, participate in and initiate research projects and provide education to improve the knowledge and skills of all staff that interact with the breast cancer patient.
Main duties of the job
To support the development of nurse led follow up clinics as per protocolTo manage and run nurse led clinics
Participate in health education programmes
To inform and counsel patients about treatment choices
To provide a support network for patients assessed through the South Essex Breast Screening Service
To actively participate in After Treatment, Moving On sessions and Stratified / Open Access follow up.
To offer and provide specialist advice through listening and counselling skills.
To deputise for the lead breast CNS when necessary; to assist in the establishment of nurse led clinics and implement new initiatives within the service.
Identify objectives in conjunction with the Lead breast CNS, thus ensuring the continuing development of the service
Implement new initiatives where possible, in line with expertise and the business demands of the Unit
Positively support the concept of change within the unit by contributing ideas for the improvement of services and patient care
