Job summary

We are looking for 2 Consultant Urological Surgeons here at at MSE Hospitals with Broomfield Hospital as the base site. Our Urology Service has been given the exciting opportunity to expand across all three sites and support our growth in referrals and build on our fantastic team.

We are looking for 2 Consultant Urologist

  • One confident to carry out general urology duties and with an interest to complement the department, such as management of superficial bladder cancer, management of superficial bladder cancer or paediatric Urology.
  • One confident to carry out stone surgery and general urology duties. Cross-site working would allow PCNL surgery at Broomfield Hospital. PCNL surgery is centralized to Broomfield Hospital and the on call commitments will be at Broomfield Hospital. There is a weekly complex stone MDT. There will be cross site working to Southend Hospital. We have a visiting weekly Lithotripsy Service across the sites. Each site also holds its own Benign X-Ray Meeting.

The purpose of this post is to provide and co-ordinate an effective general urology service and to develop a sub-specialty interest that complements the department. They are also expected to take part in all departmental activities, including on-call, audit and teaching.

Main duties of the job

Please see below and overview of the main duties entailed within the role:

  • To provide outpatient urology clinic services; this may include minor procedures
  • To perform independent elective and emergency operating including day case surgery
  • To undertake speciality clinics and participate as a core member in Urology MDTs.
  • Any responsibility which relates to a special interest;
  • Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff including the observance of local employment and human resource policies and procedures;
  • To provide consultant level Urology on call duties (1 in 11). This will include on site daytime cover and post take ward round, and to contribute to the pelvic urology on call rota.

Essential

  • MBBS or Equivalent
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or CESR (CP) - proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview
  • FRCS (Urol) or equivalent

Desirable

  • ATLS Certificate

Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in the specialty
  • Comprehensive knowledge in the specialty and ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems.
  • Demonstrates good knowledge of the structures and culture of the NHS, roles, responsibilities and relationships across the MDT and the multi-professional team
  • Able to take full and independent responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision.
