Here is an exciting opportunity for you to join us as an Interventional Radiology Healthcare assistant.
You will be part of the Interventional Radiology team and will be working under the direct supervision of the qualified IR Specialist Nurses and Radiographers. You will assist with a variety of Interventional Radiology procedures and be conversant with the equipment needed for each one. You will act as the circulating nurse in the procedure room and will fulfill all the requirements of infection control and aseptic technique.
You will assist with minor procedures such as PICC line insertions, biopsies and drainages unsupervised and will be fully trained and competent to scrub for all major procedures. You will participate in the out of hours on-call rota for both IR and Vascular emergencies once trained. You will also act as the IR Coordinator if required.

Main duties of the job
You will either be undertaking a Foundation Degree in Healthcare or Nursing Associate Training or have completed it.
You will be responsible for assisting in the implementation, evaluation and delivery of care, ensuring best practice and patient safety is paramount.
You will be flexible and willing to work wherever you are allocated, always working as part of a team to ensure the best experience for our patients.
You will be competent in venepuncture and cannulation and will undertake patient preassessments under the supervision of the nurse in charge.

- You will ensure good communication with patients, relatives, immediate team, and all other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Display and encourage Trust behaviors and values
- Participate in telephone and face to face pre-assessments and act as the IR Co-Ordinator when required.
- Maintain an up to date working knowledge of Trust policiesSupport and participate in implementing change.
- Identify and report risk, encouraging and supporting other members of the team to do also.
- To implement the Trusts infection control policy within department, ensuring all staff both nursing and clinical adhere to bare below the elbows.
- Support the infection control link worker to undertake Audits on tendable.
- Participate in all Interventional Radiology Procedures, being competent to fulfil the role of scrub nurse and circulating practitioner.
- Be competent at venepuncture, cannulation., urinary catheter care, 12 lead ECG s and Neurological observations
- Be prepared to participate in a 24-hour 7-day week rota of 37.5 hours plus on-call.
- Demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of key professional issues relating to Accountability, delegation, Consent, Documentation and Health and Safety within Interventional Radiology.
- Familiarize yourself with all the equipment used and ensure everything is re-ordered and the procedure rooms are fully stocked. Work as part of a team, building good team dynamics within the department
