Deputy General Manager - Specialist Medicine
We are seeking an ambitious and motivated Deputy General Manager (DGM) to join our leadership team, supporting the delivery of high-quality emergency and acute medical services. Reporting directly to the Deputy Director of Operations (DDO), this is a key role with both strategic and operational responsibility.
As DGM, you will deputise for the DDO, ensuring that operational performance and strategic objectives are achieved while maintaining safe, effective, and patient-centred care. You will play a vital role in assessing the impact of change, making informed decisions, balancing risks and priorities, and providing expert advice to the Divisional Management Team.
Working closely with the Clinical Director and DDO, you will contribute to shaping and delivering the long-term strategic vision, ensuring services meet both internal expectations and external standards. You will also be responsible for implementing and managing systems and processes that support Trust-wide policies and drive service excellence.
With direct line management responsibility for Service Unit Managers, you will lead performance management, workforce development, and service improvement initiatives, while representing the DDO when required. This is a dynamic role that offers significant scope to influence, develop, and deliver sustainable improvements across Specialist Medicine.
Main duties of the job
Ensure facilities and other resources are available to meet service needs, including analysing and managing space requirements.
Responsible for achievement of national and local targets in conjunction with Directors;
monitor performance against targets, identify areas of concern and take remedial and preventative action as appropriate putting in place plans to improve performance where required.
Respond to any service target breaches in line with Trust standards and put in place remedial plans to ensure such events do not reoccur.
Manage the analysis of data so that the Management team has access to timely and accurate information on all key performance indicators.
Lead on the development of reporting processes from relevant information systems and integrating them into the performance management function.
In conjunction with the DDO, analyse service data to manage demand and capacity, ensuring capacity planning up to 5 years in advance.
Provide information across the Trust on performance involving highly complex facts or situations within the service, including reporting performance to the Board.
Participate in and contribute to Trust wide initiatives and projects as appropriate.
Build effective networks with other departments, working in collaboration to support efficient patient flow. Participate in the Trust On call rota.
