Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to work within the Women & Children's Directorate. You will be joining the friendly and diverse team on Neptune Ward, which is the Paediatric Ward of Southend University Hospital. It is a busy and fast-paced environment that requires staff to be well organised, thorough and proactive in their duties. This role will involve manning both the front reception desk and the desk for the Paediatric Assessment Unit.

Main duties include preparing and tracking notes, booking patients into the ward, taking telephone calls and monitoring the front door and ensuring that people entering are compliant with COVID measures.

The Neptune Ward team is comprised of a wide range of staff across different job roles including Ward Clerks, Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Play Specialists and Consultants and Junior Doctors. It is an extremely busy department and requires a detail-oriented individual who enjoys working hard. You need to be friendly and approachable with a flexible attitude towards your duties, to cover staff absence and annual leave when required.

Main duties of the job

You will operate as a Ward Clerk for Neptune Ward and undertake clerical duties to support the function of the service.

Main responsibilities include but are not restricted to:

Variety of administrative duties to include ordering of patient notes, filing, uploading of documents, photocopying, answering the telephone and door entrance intercom.The clerk will be responsible for front facing meet & greet of service users. This will include remaining vigilant, challenging any trespassers and taking action accordingly.Accessing and/or inputting data accurately into Medway, CED, ICE, BadgerNet.To assist with clerical work as and when required in other areas.To ensure that all documentation is completed and updated as required. This will be both manual and computerised.Ensure all patient records are organised and well maintained and all reports filed as necessary.Liaise with other departments and personnel to provide a seamless service for patients.

To support the ward managers to ensure the smooth running of the unit.

To maintain personal development through annual appraisal and other necessary training.

To maintain & order of supplies via EROS & Office Depot when appropriate.
