Job summary

The Health and Safety Officer plays a vital supporting role within the Health & Safety Department, contributing to the implementation of effective health and safety systems across the Trust. Operating within the Corporate Governance Directorate, the post holder supports the Head of Health and Safety and Health and Safety Managers in ensuring that safe, legally compliant working conditions are maintained for staff, patients, visitors, and contractors.

This Band 4 role involves a broad range of administrative, communicative, and analytical responsibilities. The Officer acts as the first point of contact for the department, coordinates documentation, supports incident management processes, and facilitates communication between internal teams and external stakeholders. They assist with inspections, risk assessments, data collation, policy development, and governance processes, all while maintaining confidentiality and upholding the Trust's values.

In essence, the Health and Safety Officer underpins the operational effectiveness of the Health & Safety Team, enabling the Trust to fulfil its statutory obligations and to promote a culture of continuous improvement in health, safety, and risk management.

Main duties of the job

The Health and Safety Officer undertakes a diverse portfolio of responsibilities essential to the smooth operation of the Trust's health and safety function. Acting as a pivotal point of contact, the post holder manages sensitive communications, coordinates departmental activities, and provides administrative support across a range of safety-related functions.

Key duties include supporting risk assessments, facilitating inspections, and assisting in the management and analysis of health and safety incidents. The Officer contributes to policy development, ensures accurate documentation and reporting, and liaises effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders. By maintaining robust governance, data management, and compliance systems, the Officer ensures that the Trust adheres to statutory requirements and continually enhances its health and safety standards.
