Trainee Sonographer (fixed term training contract)

Job summary

Candidates are invited to apply for this training opportunity to acquire their Post Graduate certificate in Ultrasound Practice.

Individuals are supported in gaining their qualification through practical experience within the department and by attendance in acquiring the required university certificate.

This position is for a training contract only; a Band 7 role will be protected for candidates when it becomes available.

Main duties of the job

  • To ensure the highest professional occupational standards are maintained at all times using a high level of specialist knowledge in line with local, regional and national guidelines where appropriate.
  • To be responsible the safe conduct of any examination and welfare of the patient in the care of the post holder.
  • To ensure that scanning protocols in operation within the ultrasound department are adhered to.
  • To work as part of a professional team
  • To undertake supervised scanning duties in all areas of the Ultrasound Departments to include Obstetric, gynaecology and abdomen scanning dependent on experience.
  • To gain experience in all aspects of the ultrasound service
  • To undertake supervised transvaginal ultrasound examinations
  • Responsibility, alongside the supervising sonographer, to provide reports of their scans, ensuring accuracy and timeliness using the CRIS / PACS and digital dictation systems.
  • To be involved in the development of new techniques and services as appropriate to the requirements of the ultrasound service
  • Continuously update and employ medical knowledge/skills appropriate to ultrasound scanning.
  • To undertake any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by the Head of Imaging and in accordance with trust policies and current working practices
