Job summary
To work within the chemotherapy service in the safe provision of anticancer treatment within Mid and South Essex NHS Trust.
To provide advice and support to patients, families and carers on all aspects of chemotherapy and cancer.
SACT Passport must be completed.

Main duties of the job
- Inform and educate patients on the prescribed chemotherapy and its side effects
- To counsel, support and educate patients and their carers on all aspects of their cancer journey be they newly diagnosed or being treated with palliative intent.
- Ensure that the patient has consented to treatment and reconfirms agreement to treatment
- Undertake patient assessment, recognition and recording of chemotherapy induced toxicities using common toxicity criteria.
- Recognition of dose modifications required for cytotoxic drug toxicities
- Protocol driven decision making regarding suitability for treatment - to include blood parameters and patient performance status.

- Undertake telephone triage for chemotherapy patients and their carers, to ensure that potential treatment toxicities are treated appropriately and swiftly.
- Refer to support services as required e.g. palliative care, primary care, social services, Occupational therapy, Dietetics, Physiotherapy and Oncology Counsellor, orthotics department.
- Ensure that the patient is rebooked for treatment and medical review at the appropriate time interval, and any pre-investigation forms are given to the patient.
- Documentation of patient attendance in patient notes.
- To communicate and work with all members of the MDT to provide good care and symptom management
- Ensure that practice adheres to local and national policies and guidelines to minimise the risk associated with cytotoxic drugs.
- At all times act within current Southend Hospital NHS Trust Policies and Guidelines of Clinical Practice.
