Job summary
The key to providing a high quality service is the presence of credible nursing leadership that can provide both inspiration and direction and leadership. The Matron will therefore be a highly visible and accessible clinical leader, with a demonstrable commitment to improving the quality of patient care.
You will work within the Emergency Dept. as part of the management team and will take responsibility for the delivery and maintenance of the highest standards of nursing care. This area encompasses the Main Emergency Department as well as the co-located Minors.
You will be professionally accountable for standards of nursing and influence the non-clinical contributions that are necessary to care delivery including standards of food, cleanliness of the environment and other services that impact on patient care and welfare.
Main duties of the job
You will be easily identifiable to patients, highly visible and accessible to families and carers. They will be responsible for the Senior Sisters within their sphere of responsibility and report to the ADoN. They will have direct access to, and will be accountable to, the Divisional Deputy Director of Nursing for professional practice.
Reporting to the ADoN, the post holder will work as part of the Clinical Service Unit Management Team to support operational delivery, supporting the department in managing flow through the Emergency Dept.
As delegated budget holder the Matron will ensure optimum efficiency within given financial envelopes and work proactively to reduce expenditure in line with divisional service and cost improvement programs.
