Here is an exciting opportunity for you to join us as a Upper GI Cancer Support worker.
You will support the clinical and administrative processes to support noncomplex cancer patients within the hospital cancer services under the supervision of the Clinical Nurse Specialist. You may be required to work with those affected by Sarcoma, Teenage and Young Adults with Cancer and Cancer of Unknown Primary. You will work closely with the Tumour site Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) and the Macmillan Cancer Information leads to ensure coordination of Personalised Care in line with NHS England Long Term Plan.

Main duties of the job
You will support clinical and administrative processes. The post holder will require excellent interpersonal and communication skills including telephone, email, face to face with staff, patients and their families. They will demonstrate awareness of the needs of people affected by cancer enabling them to navigate the health and social care system to make choices that are best for their cancer Journey.
You will report to the Tumour site Clinical Nurse Specialist.

Job responsibilities
- To work autonomously but under jurisdiction of CNS to manage own workload independently, seeking advice and support, when necessary, from key personnel, adhering to current guidelines, utilising assessment frameworks and policy to inform practice and to supply information provision to patient.
- To be a key resource and support to the Clinical Nurse Specialist in conjunction with the MSE to establish the comprehensive implementation of Personalised Care.
- To work clinically alongside Clinical Nurse Specialist team and consultants within boundaries of the band 4 scope.
- Demonstrate the ability to recognise and respond appropriately when faced with a sudden deterioration or an emergency, alerting the team or enabling rapid response as appropriate.
- To assist in all administrational duties to best support the service, using IT solutions along with other methods of patient tracking and booking.
- Ensure up-to-date knowledge of current legislation, national and local regulatory requirements relating to accurate information provision. Ensure effective cancer information and support services; particularly information which will enable the patient and carers to participate in self-management are available to create a seamless experience of care for patients.
- To support and work collaboratively with Macmillan Information Centres and other health care professionals to improve access to information and support for people affected by or concerned by cancer.
- Attend/assist on Health and Wellbeing Events.
- Deliver key agreed actions within specified timescales.
- Adhere to clear role boundaries and expectations and when to seek support of signpost to more appropriate care provider.

Essential
- Evidence of NVQ health and Social Qualification - or- Working towards Nursing associate qualification Or Relevant experience in healthcare
- GCSE Grade A-C English and Maths or level 2 in Maths and English
- Evidence of working at a band 3 level- with progression to a band 4
- at least 3 years experience as a band 3 or 4
Desirable
- Registered Nursing Associate on the NMC register Nursing Associate foundation degree qualification Other Health care related qualifications or evidence of short courses.
- Clinical Skills certifications
- Relevant health or social care experience at AfC Band 4 Associate Nurse
- at least 3 years experience as a band 3 or 4 in cancer/oncology or Palliative care
