Job summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Pre-Assessment Nurse to join our team here at Mid and South Essex Foundation trust. As a key member of our pre-assessment department, you will play an essential role in ensuring that patients are thoroughly evaluated and properly prepared for their upcoming procedures.
You will be responsible for pre-operative nursing and medical assessment of patients being prepared for a variety of surgical procedures.
Provide comprehensive nursing and medical assessment, ensuring that all necessary investigations and results are collated prior to the patient's admission.
Liaise with Anaesthetist/ Surgeons regarding potential medical problems and issues regarding surgery.
You will also be required to appropriate onward referral to primary and secondary care providers to ensure pre-operative health is optimised and act as the co-ordinator of care until the patient is admitted for surgery.
Main duties of the job
Previous pre-assessment experience, although desirable, is not essential.
You will be supported in the development of skills necessary for comprehensive, individualised anaesthetic pre-assessment whilst maintaining a progressive attitude towards patient care.
You will be required to be able to work independently and organise your own workload whilst being part of a wider team.
Assist in the planning of the pre-assessment clinics.
Work under the indirect supervision of a senior nurse.
Ensure implementation of workplace policies and procedures.
Research and undertake audit relevant to the field of pre-assessment.
Provide clinical advice and support to staff and patients within own level of competence.
Access, plan, implement, and evaluate holistic, high quality and individualised care which respects a patient's person, dignity and beliefs.
Maintain a safe working environment for patients, visitors and staff.
Maintain and promote effective communication within the care team and with colleagues, patients, relatives and visitors.
Act as a mentor to students including teaching, assessing and upholding the philosophy of evidence based practice.
Maintain a professional profile and develop skills, knowledge and competencies adhering to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Trust Policies and Procedures.
To manage the clinic ensuring safe and effective patient care.
