Job summary
Our Southend team are looking to appoint a full-time Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with a specialist interest in Maternal Medicine
To provide ante-natal clinics with special interest in maternal medicine and diabetes.
To provide general gynaecology service including seeing young adolescents with gynaecology problems.
To provide a service for 2ww and gynae-oncology patients.
The candidate will be expected to cover every other Friday on call for Obstetrics and Gynaecology and also prospective cover.
You will be expected to be actively involved in the clinical governance aspects of the directorate and the trust including risk management and CNST.
To take up leadership roles within the directorate and play an active role in the operational and strategic management of the department.
Provide leadership and participate in Clinical Audit programmes.

Main duties of the job
Provide a consultant-led service in Gynaecology.
Work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to offer expert opinion and considerate advice to women with complications in any stage of pregnancy and acute gynaecology.
Develop the Obstetrics and Gynaecology service by working closely with other colleagues to standardise pathways of care.
Provide training for trainees in the specialty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Evolve and write, in line with Trust governance policies, pathways for patients seen within the Obstetrics and Gynaecology service.
Work with the multidisciplinary team to undertake a senior role in the general provision of Obstetric and Gynaecological Services at Basildon Hospital and MSE.
Provide senior leadership in the management of high-risk patients antenatally, intrapartum and postpartum in close co-operation with other specialties.
To provide gynaecological oncological services in outpatients, theatre and emergency care.
Facilitate the triage of emergency gynaecology operations as per NCEPOD recommendations to avoid operating out-of-hours (i.e., 17h00 to 08h00) whenever feasible. Consultant in Obstetrics and attend all theatre cases to perform surgery, unless satisfied a trainee is competent to perform the operation with indirect supervision.
Assessment and delivery of immediate medical attention of deteriorating elective postop gynaecology patients.
Support the Emergency Surgical Consultant with a consultant gynaecological opinion/ ultrasound
