Job summary

The Clinical Support Worker (CSW) will form an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team in providing high quality care to patients who attend the Breast Unit outpatient service.

You will be expected to undertake care to meet the needs of the patients under the supervision of the registered nurse working within the Trusts policies, procedures and Trust Values and will be expected to work collaboratively as part of the multi-disciplinary team.

You will be to work independently within the remit of the role but under the guidance and supervision of the clinic Registered Nurses and the Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS).

The CSW will assist with all clinic duties, undertake administrative tasks including preparing referrals, overseeing stock, updating computer records, assisting with procedures for cancer patients, telephoning patients, and answering general enquiries. There is opportunity to work across the clinic and within the breast care nurse team.

The job is full time (37.5 hours pw), weekdays only, 8.30 am - 5.00 pm.

Main duties of the job

This job description is an indication of the type and range of tasks that are expected of the post holder, and other duties may be required, in line with the role and the banding. It may be reviewed and amended from time to time in consultation with the postholder to take account of changing organisational needs.

  • Work under the guidance of a registered practitioner
  • Work within the boundaries of existing competence, adhering to the local and national protocols/ standard operating procedures/ policies
  • Deliver high standards of compassionate, dignified care, managing their time, tasks, and resources effectively
  • Undertake training, assessment and facilitation of peers and other staff as required
  • To support Registered practitioners in their duties and contribute to the holistic care of patients as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • To ensure that the environment is clean, safe, tidy and welcoming for patients and visitors
  • To undertake rotational work within the department as/ if required
  • To act as a role model for other staff members
  • Record patient information accurately using Trust software systems
  • To work in the ultrasound room and gain experience in order to assist with biopsies
  • Support cancer patients with guidewires, Magseed and Magtrace.
  • Undertake post op phone calls with cancer patients
  • Make follow up appointments for cancer patients as required
  • Correlate patients for MDMs
  • Ensure results are available for patient's appointments
