Job summary
The Essex programme based at Southend University Hospital part of Mid and South Essex Foundation trust, has an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated, team-oriented individual to join as a screening technician.
All training will be provided consisting of an accredited distance learning course with practical training taking place in active screening clinics. All equipment will be provided including cars, laptop, scanners.
The Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening service provides men aged sixty-five and above with diagnostic ultrasound examinations to rule out the presence of an AAA across England and Wales.
Main duties of the job
The role is patient focused and will involve travel to various sites throughout Essex to ensure maximum accessibility. This opportunity requires flexible working hours, Monday-Friday. The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to work autonomously and to ensure our service users are at the forefront of all that we do.
You will reassure men attending the community AAA screening and surveillance clinics and explain the screening test to them.
Ensure that the men attending clinics are informed and aware of the implications of AAA screening.
Working as an assistant practitioner, carry out abdominal ultrasound scans within standard operating procedures.
Following successful completion of the NAAASP course (NVQ level 3 in NHS Health Screening), you will work independently and make judgements according to experience and training.
Advice is available when needed for more complex situations but you will generally works on your own initiative without reference to the Line Manager, working independently in screening clinics.
You will possess a strong understanding of the invitation and administrative process, assisting with administration when not in screening clinics.
Having previous customer facing experience although patient/NHS experience not essential.
You must be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Have both excellent communication andIT skills.
