Job summary
The Deputy General Manager (DGM) is accountable to the Deputy Director of Operations (DDO). The purpose of the DGM role is to support and deputise for the Deputy Director of Operations to ensure that both strategic and operational demands are met.
The DGM role will report to the Deputy Director of Operations for the delivery of Emergency care and acute Medicine, for assessing the impact of change and making decisions, balancing risks and priorities, and for providing advice to the Divisional Management Team.
The post holder will support the Clinical Director and Deputy Director of Operations with the development and delivery of a strategic vision and ensure service changes meet internal and external expectations and standards.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for implementing and managing systems and processes to ensure that all services are delivered in accordance with Trust-wide policies. The post has direct line management responsibility for service unit managers and the delivery and performance management of those services. In the first instance this will include the review and, where necessary, the development of mechanisms for performance management at service level, workforce development and representing the DDO in their absence.

Exercise delegated authority from DDO and CD for development and implementation of performance management framework and resolution of day-to-day management issues within the Division.
Support the DDO to hold Lead Clinicians, Emergency and Acute medicine Senior team to account onoperational key Performance indicators.
To account for delivery of their objectives through regular performance review meetings.
Formally deputise for the DDO including in internal and Trust-wide performance meetings.
Identify early need for remedial action plans where performance targets are not met.
Responsibility for ensuring sufficient data is available to monitor report and manage performance against benchmark.
Provide appropriate input and challenge to ensure accountability within the service to ensure high quality performance and key targets are achieved.
Work closely with the Deputy Director of Nursing, lead nurse and Matrons to ensure effective flow is maintained with apporpariate challenge and escalation , early escalation of delays , working with system wide MDT to ensure maximum efficiency in flow.
Ensure facilities and other resources are available to meet service needs, including analysing and managing space requirements.
Responsible for achievement of national and local targets in conjunction with Directors; monitor performance against targets, identify areas of concern and take remedial and preventative action as appropriate putting in place plans to improve performance where required.
Respond to any service target breaches in line with Trust standards and put in place remedial plans to ensure such events do not occur again
Manage the analysis of data so that the Management team has access to timely and accurate information on all key performance indicators.
