The job offers DCT level experience and will involve a 1 in 8 full shift on call rota as part of a 3 tier arrangement with middle grade and consultants. Ample opportunities to improved and develop oral surgical skills and mange subspecialty patients under full supervision. Multidisciplinary subspecialist interests and participation is also available and encouraged.
The job is suitable for those seeking to top up experience in oral & maxillofacial surgery at a DCT level and is best suited for those holding full registration with the GDC.
Main duties of the job
The duties of the appointee will involve working in the outpatient clinics, operating sessions under LA in the department, operating sessions under GA in the operating theatre and occasionally see referrals from other departments on the ward according to the needs of the department. Clinical responsibility will be to the Consultants.
Your duties will be arranged with the Consultants to whom you are responsible, who has final medical responsibility for all patients under his/her care. Any clinical problems beyond your experience or problems causing anxiety should be referred to the Consultant. Supportive training will be available in all aspects of Oral and maxillofacial surgery and oral medicine and he/she will be able to attend combined clinics with orthodontics/restorative and oncology.

Job responsibilities
Listed below are some (not exhaustive) duties:-
- General and Specialist Outpatient clinics, minor operating sessions under LA in the outpatient department always with direct senior supervision commensurate with experience.
- Undertaking day case operating lists, with appropriate supervision as deemed
- Working closely with consultants for smooth running of the consultant theatre lists
- Cross covering activities due to absences of clinicians as per service requirements. Deputising for absent staff and other clinical colleagues in theatres, wards and outpatient clinics and other areas, as necessary, at a level commensurate with the appointee's experience and capability( all should have enough experience and capability at a DCT level). Support can be provided to get to that level
- Attending to emergencies and referrals to the OMFS Department from other specialities within the hospital, with reference to the Consultant
- Attending promptly to administrative matters and correspondence relating to any or all of the above, including triaging, data collection, audit and discharge duplicate
- Liaise between nurses, other junior doctors, patients, relatives and senior medical Liaison with other surgical staff and nursing staff Work closely will all allied specialties
- Attend to the day to day management of day case, out-patient and in-patients
- Attend and participate in ward rounds and operating theatre sessions as timetabled (as assigned)
- Attend general and specialist out-patient, diagnostic and pre-assessment clinics
- Take part in rostered emergency work and do morning and evening ward rounds seeing all patients and do effective handover
- The candidate will participate in a 1 in 8 partial shift Rota for Oral & Maxillofacial Emergencies and in-patient care based at Broomfield Specialty Doctor Middle Grade 2nd on call tier and the Consultant is 3rd on call.
- To keep up-to date with all administrative duties including signing letters, results and discharge summaries as require
- Study for higher examinations and maintain continued professional development
- Undertake and assist in audit projects at various times throughout the rotations
- Attend weekly educational and multidisciplinary sessions
- To co-operate with members of the HR department when monitoring hours of work
- Attend induction in each hospital or new department
- Comply with all local policies including dress code, annual and study leave
- Additional responsibilities of rota /leave management may be required
