Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for Associate PiCC Practitioner to assist qualified staff in implementing and delivering a safe and effective patient focused care to all service users within the PICC & Vascular Access Service.

This will involve in patient follow up care & clinical maintenance of PiCC's, CVAD'S & Midlines (inclusive of IV flushing), intermediate level troubleshooting and removal of both devices along with weekly protocol driven telephone follow up of all patients.Alongside this there is scope for extending their skillset to ultrasound guided peripheral cannulation , allowing the potential candidate to enter at band 3 to then receive bespoke training to gain competence withpotential promotion to band 4 once all of the required competencies and training have been completed successfully alongside good attendance record and team working at the discretion of the MSE Lead Vascular Access Nurse locally.

Previous Vascular Access service experienced is required.

Main duties of the job

1.Good communication skills with the team and multidisciplinary team involved with the PiCC & Vascular Access service patients.2. To be autonomous and prioritise and manage own workload well. Including, analysing patient situations to decide where escalation is required3. Pre, peri and post CVAD insertion care of patient. Observations performed where required along with all necessary basic nursing care when needed. Care and maintenance of PiCC & Midlines on wards along with clinical assistance to other healthcare professionals seeking support with PiCC & VA service patients.Setting up and cleaning down service area and performing daily safety checks all in line with trust policies.4. To assist in the ongoing review and development of integral policies and service development guided by senior staff when required. Including innovation to aid service improvement5.To be aware of consumable and equipment costs when providing care and managing waste resourcefully. Ensuring stock spreadsheet up to data and accurate. Initiating ordering or changes to stock management for efficient service with support from senior staff.6. To support and mentor student nurses and junior health care staff in conjunction with senior staff.7. Good Keyboard/computer skills including: Vitalpac, Lorenzo EPR, teletracking and trust intranet, PiCC & VA spreadsheet/database recording and also collecting data for audit and research purposes

Also proficient use of all IT systems required e.g Lorenzo (EPR), Teletracking, and speadsheet and database management, NHSSC & financial for ordering and management of supplies.
