Job summary
The Maternal Medicine Specialist Midwife will provide equitable and expert support for women with pre-existing or pregnancy-induced significant medical issues, to ensure sustainability of that care, and additionally provide perinatal mental health support or another onward referral as required. They may also provide support for colleagues providing these services, and form links through into the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust Maternal Medicine Network.
You will have responsibility for the provision of effective and efficient service within the midwifery unit(s) in their Trust. They will provide clinical and professional management and leadership for the team. They will work alongside the Lead Clinician for their Trust, and with the Local Maternity System Maternal Medicine Clinical lead.
Main duties of the job
- You will be responsible for ensuring the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care are maintained to a high standard.
- Manage the reporting aspects of the Maternal Medicine within their unit and ensure cost effective use of resources.
- Promote effective management of change by acting on audit and other reviews to implement agreed new approaches to raise the quality of care
- Provide leadership to local maternal medicine staff and work with the MMN Midwives to develop new roles
- Lead standard setting initiatives, protocols, and quality assurance programmes, addressing any risk management issues to ensure that midwifery practice complies with current evidence-based guidelines and protocols
- Act as a resource for specialised midwifery advice and guidance to midwifery colleagues and other health professionals
- Lead the development of departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines to establish goals and standards, ensuring these are met
