AHP Workforce Development Lead - Band 8A
We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic senior leader to take on a fixed term role (12 months) as Allied Health Professions Workforce Development Lead, supporting the AHP leads and Heads of Profession in a joint strategic partnership across Mid and South Essex Foundation Trust.
The successful candidate will work with Head and Lead AHPs across MSEFT to deliver a workforce strategy to recruit, retain and develop AHP's across the Trust. They will work collaboratively with the AHP network in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System and Faculty Work Programme, to implement and deliver the requirements set out in the regional specification for AHP's.
Main duties of the job
To work with Clinical Directors, Head and Lead AHPs across MSEFT and in collaboration with nursing colleagues to deliver:
- Workforce planning - To develop and implement policies that help to recruit and develop a career pathway for the AHP workforce.
- Apprenticeships - To gather, map and analyse AHP apprenticeship data across MSEFT and perform a scoping exercise to establish a plan for system wide collaboration for apprentice development and education.
- Return to Practice - To help MSEFT to reach the HEE target of recruiting return to practice AHP's.
- International Recruitment - To represent MSEFT with regard to AHP international recruitment.
- Preceptorship - To contribute to the MSEFT wide preceptorship project with the aim of facilitating, embedding and reviewing programmes

The main responsibility of the role is to lead on and support the delivery of the strategic aims, which are:
Workforce Planning To support effective short and long-term AHP workforce planning through timely access to accurate AHP workforce supply and demand data and intelligence by:
- Working with the Trusts AHP Leads and Workforce colleagues to establish accurate AHP workforce data including vacancies.
- Supporting the development and delivery of an 18-month organisational AHP strategic workforce plan that builds workforce supply across all the AHP professions.
- Working with ICS/faculty to contribute to regional implementation plan for a Regional AHP Supply and Demand Dashboard - or equivalent, that will include an ICS self-service access.
Retention and Support for Students, the Newly Qualified Workforce and Early Careers to support the continued growth of Band 5 posts for AHPs & reduce AHP student attrition and improve retention of students and new graduates across the region
- To work with ICS / Faculty to deliver a standardised preceptorship programme across the MSEFT.
- Develop an Early Careers Programme of education and activity to support all newly qualified staff, as well as participate in pilot work designed to support cohorts impacted by the pandemic who may be lacking in confidence
Supporting AHPs to Return to Practice (RtP)
- To maximise RtP opportunities
- To develop an agreed trust process for supporting AHP returnees.
International recruitment - To explore the potential for further workforce growth through targeted international recruitment
- To actively support national, regional and faculty international recruitment activities
Apprenticeships - To support workforce growth and widening participation by maximising access routes into pre-registration level 6 AHP apprenticeship training for AHPs
- To work with Learning and Development Teams to promote access to AHP apprenticeships
AHP Support Workforce - To deliver the National AHP Support Workforce Specification
- To scope current AHP support workforce (including numbers, roles, banding, diversity).
- To map current workforce against the education requirements in the framework and associated domains and competencies.
- To determine additional learning needed across the support workforce (gap analysis and training needs analysis).
