Job summary
We are looking for Foundation Year 1 and Foundation 2 Level doctors in Medicine for the Elderly to join our team based at our Southend site.
Medicine for the Elderly is an exciting and expanding specialty which has undergone significant change in the last few years. The DME has substantive Consultants with a range of sub-speciality interests. We are looking to expand our department in order to develop and improve our frailty services across the region across both acute and community domains and improve our frailty liaison services within the trust.
Although these posts have neither Royal College nor Postgraduate approval for training, they will be well supported by an allocated educational mentor.
The team offers a personalised supportive induction programme for all newly appointed candidates. Through our induction programme, we ensure that all new team members feel integrated and supported. We include regular reviews and opportunities to flex the induction programme as required.
The Trust has an excellent Postgraduate Medical Centre which carries a full programme of events and offers access to a Medical Library.

Main duties of the job
Develop enhanced clinical skills, especially in the assessment and management of acutely ill patients.
Gain experience in general practice, and the interface between primary and secondary care.
Improve all aspects of communication with patients, carers and staff members working within multi-disciplinary teams.
Develop knowledge of hospital systems and clinical governance.
Liaise between nurses, other junior doctors, patients, relatives and senior medical staff.
Maintain continued professional development
Undertake and assist in audit projects
Attend weekly educational and multidisciplinary sessions
The post holder will work Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, with a 1:5 weekend shift pattern.
