Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for you to join our Medical Examiner team based at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, Essex.
This is a chance for you to join a dynamic and expanding service that, when fully established, will provide independent scrutiny of all non-coronial deaths.
You will be working with a multidisciplinary team internally and externally, including Medical Examiner Officers, clinical staff of all grades, HM Coroner's Office, Bereavement Service staff, Registration Services and you will have close contact with bereaved families.
As of the appointment date, the candidate must have been registered with a license to practise in the UK by the General Medical Council (GMC) throughout the previous five years.
To be shortlisted for this role, you must be able to work a session on Tuesday pm or Friday am.
Main duties of the job
A Medical Examiner (ME) performs proportionate scrutiny of non-coronial deaths to improve the quality and accuracy of mortality data. This directly contributes to improving the overall quality of care and has important links to system-wide mortality improvement programmes.
Sessions available are Tuesday pm or Friday am - I PA each.

Medical Examiners must undergo online and face-to-face / virtual training commissioned and delivered by Health Education England and the Royal College of Pathologists Medical Examiners Committee. After completing the required training, you can join the Royal College of Pathologists (RCPathME).
Knowledge of local and national clinical governance systems and how the ME can work collaboratively.
Knowledge of the special requirements of various faith groups and respect for equality and diversity.
You should have up-to-date knowledge of causes of death and an understanding of the legal frameworks associated with death certification processes.
