Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Surgical Directorate at Southend Hospital. This is a unique opportunity for a two candidates who ares enthusiastic and motivated, we are looking to appoint a Clinical Fellow (ST3+ Level) candidates into our Surgical specialty teams, ideally with an interest in General, and Colorectal services on a fixed term basis until the 31st March 2025.

The department of General Surgery undertakes a large volume of laparoscopic surgery, including biliary, upper GI, colorectal and hernia surgery.

In addition, we are pleased to confirm we would be in a position to consider the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) Medical Training Initiative (MTI) programme for these posts. This programme supports international medical graduates (IMGs) who are seeking short-term training opportunities in the UK with the intention to return to their home countries on completion of their training.

Main duties of the job

The Surgeons are supported by a network of clinical and administrative staff, both at Southend and across Essex, providing multi-disciplinary care and guiding patients through their complex pathways.

Joining this expanding team will provide invaluable experience within the field of Colorectal Surgery in addition to offering high quality multi-disciplinary team working.

The successful candidate will assist the Consultant Surgeons in the provision of Services including:

  • Clinics -You will support new and follow-up clinics.
  • Theatres -You will have the opportunity to participate and be trained in a wide range of procedures appropriate to their level of training
  • Ward duties -You willundertake daily ward rounds supporting the existing team of junior doctors and consultants
  • Academic/Research -It is expected to play a contributory role in current departmental research, audit, quality improvement projects and teaching as well as lead research projects under the supervision of Consultants.
  • On-Call -This post will participate in a General Surgery middle grade on-call rota.
