Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a Cardiology Research Fellow based in the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre (ECTC).

It is a full time post, for 24 months, designed to provide research training and experience in Cardiology under guidance and supervision of Consultant Cardiologists. The ECTC provides tertiary cardiac and cardiothoracic care to the area of Essex covering a population of 1.7 million. The centre has a busy interventional cardiology programme with 12 interventional cardiologists undertaking approximately 2600 PCI per year including 750 PPCIs. There is a dedicated CTO programme with approximately 120 CTO PCI per year. The centre has significant experience in coronary physiology assessment (FFR, iFR, CFR, Doppler, IMR, and Rayflow / Coroventis) and intracoronary imaging (OCT and IVUS). There is a structural programme involving TAVI.

The ECTC has an evolving academic interventional cardiology research programme that involves both international multicentre studies and original, investigator-initiated projects and has a special interest in coronary physiology, CTO PCI, PCI for STEMI and OHCA.

Depending upon the candidates' level of cardiology training, access to the catheter lab and training in coronary intervention and primary angioplasty (including integration into the primary angioplasty SpR rota) may be possible.

Main duties of the job

Works towards MD thesis submission within 2-year period of research. Interventional fellow responsible for the coronary physiology / imaging research programme, as well as CHIP, MCS and CTO programme.

Active participation (recruitment, procedure, data collection) in research studies of the department. Produce academic papers and abstracts.

KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE

The enrolled employee should have a good experience in the field of Cardiology.The employee should also:

Provide dedicated clinical trials support to the health care teams.

Assist in the provision of background information related to potential clinical trials in order to obtain approvals from Research Governance and Local Ethics Committees.

Participate in the recruitment process and monitor the progress of the clinical trials' patients and report any adverse reactions or events.

Actively and competently participate in the consenting process when patients agree to enter a Clinical Trial according to the principles of Good Clinical Practice.

Liaising closely with Clinical Trials Centre as necessary to ensure smooth running of clinical trials for the patients. Ensure collection of accurate data and delivery to Clinical Trials Centres in a timely manner adhering at all times to the terms of the DPA 1998.
