This job is now closed

Job summary

Do you have acute paediatric nursing experience and would enjoy working autonomously caring for children in a non acute environment? If so, then this is the job for you.

The paedaitric ambulatory unit is a new service for children, young people, and their families serving the MSE. It is a nurse-led service, supported by the Acute Consultants and aims to deliver acute and ambulatory care to paediatric patients to reduce length of stay, prevent hospital admissions and facilitate early discharge home.

We are looking for an individual who is not afraid to advocate for our patients and can build a rapport in a time when they can feel anxious and uncertain about their treatment.

Main duties of the job

  • Use and develop his/her clinical experience and skills in the independent assessment and management of unwell children to ensure all children referred to the ambulatory team receive high quality, effective, individualised care that is compassionate and caring.
  • Have opportunities to work within the PED, PAU and the children inpatient ward to develop and refine their skills and knowledge.
  • Assist in the reduction of acute admissions to inpatient hospital beds by supporting children and families to self-manage conditions and by providing care in an ambulatory setting
  • Work closely with the lead nurse, consultants and multi-disciplinary team members both in the hospital and tertiary centres to monitor and maintain policies, standards of nursing care and staff development.
  • Work flexibly within the team in a dynamic and changeable environment which can evolve throughout the day with competing demands.
