Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust has just released a exciting role within Digital Services (IT) requiring a dedicated self-motivated capable individual ensuring the reliable and efficient support to our Network Communications infrastructure based on Cisco and Palo Alto technologies.
You must ensure any technologies implemented are secure by design and compliant with Trust IG and security policies.
Main duties of the job
You will lead a site based team of network analysts at one of the MSE acute sites , working alongside Senior Network Engineers to specify, design, develop, implement and support complex technical solutions across the organisation. Requirement to manage 3rd party suppliers, short term contractors and Trust staff as well as project manage the implementation, testing, acceptance, rollout and on-going support of these solutions across the entire organisation

- Professional/Technical
- Manage a site-based team to ensure all incidents, service requests, and project works allocated to the site are addressed in accordance with the appropriate Trust standard Service Level Agreement SLA.
- Manage the site-based team to ensure that incidents, service requests and project works are accurately logged and updated on the ITSM system in a timely fashion with all information necessary for other technicians to review or progress the call.
- To monitor outstanding/unresolved incidents on the ITSM system and to be proactive in ensuring that they are progressed in accordance with escalation procedures embodied in the Trust SLA.
- To manage ITIL procedures and standards within the team.
- Provide regular and clear feedback to users on the progress of incidents, service requests and project works.
- Support and maintenance of all existing network infrastructure.
- Implementation of new network Infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation including network diagrams.
- Capacity planning, management Network Utilisation.
- Performance, diagnostic monitoring and monitoring trend analysis of bandwidth.
- Implementation of backup strategies of core configuration.
- Contingency planning and disaster recovery.
- Interface with configuration change management processes.
- Development of a customer focussed service for the Trust.
- Evaluation of proposed network infrastructure ensuring technical compatibility and stability, providing guidance to IT management, ensuring that proposed developments are in line with the IM&T strategy

- To participate in the established shift pattern to ensure the Network Team provides cover from 08:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday
- To participate in the out-of-hours on-call support function to the Trust for which an on-call allowance is paid

- To understand and ensure all actions are compliant with Trust Information Governance policy
- To understand and adhere at all times to agreed service management processes, routine maintenance activities and standard operating procedures (SOPs), and ensure all that records are correctly maintained.
- The post holder will need to be physically fit, able to lift and carry equipment when necessary
- The duties and responsibilities will involve movement between supported sites. A full driving licence and regular use of a car are required.
- Duties will also require visits to all areas of Trust sites including controlled environments e.g. Pathology Departments, non-office environments internal and external to buildings, confined and awkward spaces and areas that might be dusty and / or dirty e.g. wiring closets, service ducts, plant rooms, basements etc.
- The role can involve lifting and carrying of equipment, tools and consumables from storage to installation, using trolleys when appropriate. Some tasks might also require the use of steps or ladders.
- The post requires regular daily use of display screen equipment. Good eyesight and accurate keyboard skills are required for detailed command line data entry e.g. system configuration.
- Good manual dexterity with experience of using tools appropriate to the maintenance of IT equipment will be necessary.
- To act as a mentor and a coach for the network teams and other members of the department. To provide training and guidance in work routines and Support Desk processes. To maintain technical knowledge and skill levels within the team, passing on own knowledge in training sessions, where appropriate.

- To attend regular team meetings and provide relevant information as required
- To contribute to the development and maintenance of IT and communication records including asset management e.g. hardware / software inventories, configuration records and diagrams, agreed service management processes and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- To contribute to the development, implementation and on-going maintenance of business continuity and disaster recovery arrangements and to be proactive in maintaining own knowledge, skills and training to carry out the required actions
- Understand Trust level SLAs related to the business critical IT Services and external third party IT service providers.
- Receiving work packages following the Prince 2 Project Management methodology, and accepting work packages on behalf of the Department.
- Report any security breaches to the IT Operations Manager and Information Governance manager.
- Contribute to the IT Capital Programme by advising of upgrades and developments and providing suitable business cases where relevant.

- Lead a team of permanent WTEs as well as oversee the temporary recruitment and supervision of agency and contract resources.

- Monitor and contribute to the digital services budgets in relation to the required expenditure for technologies essential for the ongoing availability of Trust Digital Services infrastructure and clinical systems.
- Expected to work with third party suppliers and the procurement team to fulfil procurement requirements in line with current BAU or project work and relevant budgetary limitations.
- Communication
- The post holder will receive and interpret highly complex statistical information regarding clinical systems performance providing recommendations and advice to the Infrastructure Team members and IT Management teams as appropriate.
- Responsible for providing specific technical input regarding development and integration requirements to third party suppliers.
- Planning and Organisation
- Ensuring an ITIL based change management control process is strictly adhered to for changes in functionality and configuration of the technical IT Digital Services infrastructure.
