Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to join our team on the Palliative Care Team providing multi-professional palliative care services for patients cared by Southend Hospital. The Team has highly developed collaborative relationships across primary, secondary and voluntary care.
You will provide a full and efficient PA and secretarial service to the Palliative Care Team.
You will demonstrate excellent organizational skills and have the ability to work independently, using discretion, judgment and critical analysis. They will handle sensitive and complex issues in a professional manner, taking initiative where required.
To provide a comprehensive secretarial service to the Palliative Care Team including: typing clinic letters, managing case notes, providing reports, typing documents, taking and compiling minutes, notes management, collecting and delivering post from the main hospital building, photocopying, opening mail and facilitating the coordinated operation of the department.
Main duties of the job
Deal sensitively and reassuringly with anxious, distressed patients/ their families and to the bereaved to ascertain problems and ensure that these are conveyed accurately and concisely between patients and staff as required.
Within known alternatives & where appropriate, decide when to refer to Medical & Nursing staff or resolve query on own initiative.
To manage complex and demanding enquiries and concerns in a calm and supportive manner and to process or refer on as appropriate, ensuring a high standard of professionalism at all times.
Provide specific information and advice to patients, clients and their families under the direction of clinical staff (by telephone, in writing or in person).
Support and coordinate specific clinical imaging requests and processes, generally requiring liaison with funding and clinical teams.
