Job summary
The Medicines Information Service is based at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford and provides answers to patient focussed medicines enquiries from health care professionals across Mid and South Essex NHS Trust.
The post requires someone who enjoys clinical problem solving and has excellent communication skills.
Whilst NHS hospital pharmacy experience is preferred, applications from pharmacists working in primary care with experience of answering medicines information enquiries will be considered.
Opportunities for part-time and/or remote working will be considered.
Main duties of the job
You will provide specialist pharmacist support to the Medicines Information Service and train others in the skills required to undertake advanced clinical problem-solving.
In addition, you will assist in providing and maintaining a safe and efficient pharmaceutical service to hospital wards, maintaining and developing your own clinical skills.

Provision of Medicines Information Services:
- Provide information and advice in response to all enquiries from healthcare professionals and patients.
- Link the provision of information with specialised clinical interpretation, opinion and professional judgement in order to provide advice on the management of particular patients, conditions and circumstances.
- Communicate articulately on an appropriate level, simple or detailed information regarding treatment, diseases and outcomes.
- Resolve problems where the information is incomplete, possibly misleading, biased or conflicting, including in areas where information is lacking and medical or other opinion differs.
- Search appropriate sources of information, working accurately with information management systems.
- Develop and deliver verbal and written responses and reports.
- Promote the formulary within the trust and guide staff and colleagues on its use.
- Supervise and authorise responses of rotational pharmacists, trainee pharmacists and student pharmacy technicians working in the medicines information department.
- Analyse information regarding new medicines.
- Deputise for the Lead Pharmacist Medicines Information as required.
