Job summary
This is a substantive full time consultant post in Nephrology joining a team of 12 Nephrologists in the Regional Kidney Service hosted by Basildon Hospital and delivered at all three hospital sites within the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.
You will be based at Basildon hospital, who have a team of six Nephrologists, and will include a 1 in 3 rota for covering in-patients on approximately half of ward, of 15 patients.
Your role will be responsible for weekly clinics and for managing a cohort of haemodialysis patients at Basildon with an opportunity to develop regional specialist clinics that may occur at all three sites. you will be expected to contribute regularly to procedure supervision and training of the renal STs and trust grades and also participate in the rota with other Consultant Nephrologists to cover inpatient and on-call commitments. In addition, you will be expected to contribute to the education of trainees, quality improvement, research activities, and clinical governance of the service.
Main duties of the job
The job plan allows for a rota of 2 weeks in 6 of ward-based work, both of which will be devoted to delivering inpatient services at the Basildon site, with some time for MDTs.
The remaining weeks will be based on delivering out-patient care, this will predominantly be at one site but there is the potential for regional clinics such as APKD to be run at all three sites. Remote working with attend anywhere is encouraged to meet the NHS targets.
There will be 2-3 clinics a week during the clinic week block, two for dialysis cover for the cohort of patients. QA and administration related to dialysis patients is expected to be incorporated into tis time. We expect the dialysis cohort to be covered as part of the role to be approximately 60 patients.
There is a 1 in 6 on-call renal rota for weekday and weekend out of hours work.
The job plan will be a prospective agreement that sets out the Consultant's typical working pattern, duties, objectives, and responsibilities for the coming year. It will cover all aspects of the Consultant's professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education, managerial responsibilities, and external commitments.
