A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a 12 month post to help shape the lipid service based at our Basildon Hospital site.
We are looking for a highly motivated person to join the lipid team as a specialist nurse caring for patients requiring innovative treatments for hypercholesterolaemia.
You will have a good knowledge of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and management of disorders of lipid management although further training can be provided.
You will also need to be organised, have good counselling skills and be IT literate.
Understanding of the challenges associated with inherited conditions would be advantageous.
You will be required to provide nurse led clinics and work closely with lead consultant and possible in the future , GP surgeries to optimises therapy.
Main duties of the job
- Committed to patient care and capable of carrying out patient assessment/evaluation in lipid management in an outpatient clinic
- The practitioner must be willing to work with the wider multidisciplinary team and appropriately liaise/refer onto secondary, tertiary, and primary care.
- To support the service, the practitioner will be responsible for developing and maintaining a database and supporting the participation in national and local audit especially the submission of Familial Hypercholesterolaemia
- Responsible for providing specialist advice and support to, and liaising with other staff. This includes the provision of specialist education and training for other staff and students
- Responsible for implementing a clearly defined integrated approach to patient care encompassing new treatments and evidence based care
- Required to undertake research and lead clinical audits in own specialist area
