Although this is a newly created role at Southend Hospital, there are many Dietetic Assistants employed within the Trust that you will be able to liaise with and work with in addition to the support you will receive from the Dietetic team on site.
Main duties of the job
Main duties of the job include:

- To assist Dietitians to enable patients to be discharged from hospital promptly; this could include providing written patient information, providing feeding pump or equipment, and to co-ordinate supplies of nutritional supplements or tube feeds for patients.
- To support the dietitians to facilitate a seamless transfer of care between acute and community settings.
- To participate in project work and be involved with education and training of staff, such as housekeepers, healthcare assistants and nursing staff in aspects of nutritional delivery or nutritional screening e.g. MUST training.
After adequate training, you will support dietitians in delivering aspects of dietetic care by reviewing the dietetic plans that have been previously implemented by the Dietitian, and feeding back to the Dietitian.
Your role will include:
- Working closely with the Dietetic team and wider multi-disciplinary team.
- Supporting timely reviews of dietetic plans.
- Supporting prompt discharges from the hospital with anything related to dietetics.
- Supporting the Dietitian in patient related administrative tasks.
