Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to join our Team as we are looking to provide a high quality service therefore enhancing and improving that service.

This post is ideally suited to candidates who have some experience in glaucoma and wish to further their clinical and surgical skills. This post is not recognised for specialist training by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists at this time.

You will act as point of contact for glaucoma support to junior medical staff within the department and undertake some general ophthalmic outpatient clinic commitment.

You will also coordinate the acute glaucoma service, under the guidance of the Consultant Ophthalmologists. Attend to administrative matters and correspondence relating to patients. SPAs to be undertaken on-site,

Main duties of the job

The Ophthalmology service is delivered to the population of South Essex from Southend University Hospital, Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Orsett Hospital near Basildon and Brentwood Community Hospital as well as outreach clinics in the localities.

Similar facilities are available across sites the exception of paediatric operating facilities which are only available at Southend and Broomfield Hospital.

Our stand-alone unit within the Southend NHS teaching hospital site comprises of 2 dedicated theatres, 1 of which is GA, 2 day stay bays with 1 single en-suite side room (9 beds) and 17 outpatient rooms which include diagnostic facilities for all sub-specialties. Plans are currently underway to expand and modernise the unit to meet the present day demands. Our selfcontained satellite unit at Orsett Hospital also provides a dedicated day stay theatre and outpatient facilities.
